JAMS COVID19 Emergency Fund

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a financial emergency for the Jane Adeny Memorial School (JAMS). In July, the Kenyan government mandated that schools remain closed until January 2021 and that the academic year begin over again at that time. We need your help in raising $60,000 to sustain JAMS until students return to campus in January.

The JAMS COVID-19 Emergency Fund will address three goals:

  1. Continue long-distance instruction and wellness checks; achieve 100% student return to campus in 2021
  2. Retain JAMS high-quality teachers and staff
  3. Maintain campus functions and security to benefit the school and the community

Eighteen generous supporters of JAMS have pledged a total of $30,000 to a matching pool. These donors will match all donations to the JAMS COVID-19 Emergency Fund received by or before September 15, up to the total of $60,000. Your donation will be doubled! Donate HERE.

The tuition and fees that scholarship sponsors and parents have already paid for 2020 will be used to pay for the students’ education in 2021. However, JAMS needs funds now to cover the expenses of maintaining instruction  and keeping the campus functioning and safe during 2020.

The JAMS COVID-19 Emergency Fund will cover the following expenses:

  • Compensation for educators and support staff
  • Maintenance of campus buildings and operations
  • Telephones and airtime for students and teachers

We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has created great need around the world, including in the U.S. where most Friends of JAMS supporters live. We hope, however, that some of you will be able to help JAMS meet this challenge to its mission of making a better future possible for bright and determined girls in one of the most under-resourced areas of Kenya.

Remember — your donation will be DOUBLED by the matching pool!

“If we support girls’ education, the world will be a better place. Girls are very good leaders. Girls are good researchers. In this society we need women who are empowered.” — Emily, JAMS graduate
