Thanks to supporters like you, Give DeKalb County 2020 was a great success! We surpassed our goal by almost $3,000 to raise a total of $12,980 this year. Five of you renewed your scholarships (thank you!). The rest of the funds will provide books for the new school library and internet connectivity for the new computer lab housed in the Resource Center that Jane Adeny Memorial School (JAMS) built in 2019.
Kenyan high school students typically do not have access to books, other than class textbooks which they often must share two or three students to one book. Few schools in Kenya have libraries, and fewer still have computer labs. Your generosity enables JAMS to set a standard of excellence for the region and to provide the resources students need to pursue their interests, do research, and prepare for future success.
We especially appreciate your gift at this time when there is so much need, both here in the U.S. and around the world. Well-educated young women will be part of the solution as Kenya begins to recover from the effects of the coronavirus.
JAMS aims to provide an education “good enough for the richest and open to the poorest.” The mission of JAMS is to make high school available to girls who would not otherwise progress beyond eighth grade. Many of the students are orphans; others are from very poor families who cannot afford to send their children to high school.
Thank you for helping Friends of JAMS educate girls and transform the world!
