Construction of a new dormitory at Jane Adeny Memorial School for Girls (JAMS) begun during summer 2024 will provide living space for 40 additional students. JAMS’ reputation for success has attracted a flood of applications, but existing dorm space was not adequate to accommodate more students. Additional students and a dorm to house them will enable JAMS to maximize the use of its staff and facilities.
Thanks to generous donations by Friends of JAMS, the building is now enclosed with a roof in place, doors and windows installed, walls plastered, and flooring finished as of the end of September. Much work remains, however, to make the dorm ready for the girls.
Now, the new dorm needs to be outfitted. The photo shows beds in a current JAMS dorm. The new building will need beds, mattresses, and bed linens as well as plumbing, toilets, showers, equipment, and supplies. Gutters and a water catchment system also need to be installed to protect the building in the rainy season and conserve water for use in the greenhouses. Finally, landscaping around the building must be completed.
Proceeds from our exciting A Taste of Kenya event on October 12 will help to fund completion of the new dormitory facility. Friends of JAMS donors will help to ensure that 40 additional bright, deserving girls can be housed on campus and will gain access to a JAMS education.
