JAMS Graduation
When supporters heard about recent growth challenges at the Jane Adeny Memorial School for Girls, they responded in a big way: More than $42,000 was raised for JAMS during the May 1st Give DeKalb County event, with additional gifts and bonuses still coming in.
All pledged donations have now been received along bonus pool incentives and prize money. JAMS exceeded its $55,000 goal this year!
JAMS ranked 12th overall in donations and number of donors among some 165 charities involved in the Give DeKalb County event. And in the Small Budget Category, JAMS ranked number one, earning a special $300 award.
“We’re thrilled with the level of commitment this represents,” said Friends of JAMS President Anne Kaplan. “JAMS has clearly touched many hearts, and the success of its students continues to underscore what a worthy cause this is. We are enormously grateful for the generosity of our supporters.”
JAMS founder Teresa Wasonga arrived in Kenya on May 14 and is already putting the donations to work.
New laptops, bed linens and physical education equipment are on order, while arrangements are being made for repairing buildings and taking on new students from a nearby school that closed.
Some 125 donors showed their support for JAMS during Give DeKalb County, which is the school’s largest single fundraising event of the year.
