In ordinary years, we hold an in-person event in the fall to raise funds for the Scholarship Fund, but this is not an ordinary year and we won’t be having an in-person fundraiser this fall. That’s why we decided to make scholarships our focus during Give DeKalb County 2021, coming up on May 6.
The pandemic has closed many businesses and deepened poverty in Kenya, making the need for support for girls’ education even greater than before. At the same time, education remains the single most effective investment in the future for developing countries like Kenya and especially for improving the lives of women and children.
There are two ways to give (see below). Either way, your gift will earn Friends of JAMS a percentage of the Bonus Pool provided by the DeKalb County Community Foundation!
Due to the pandemic, Kenyan schools were closed for most of 2020. For this reason, the Class of 2020 is graduating in April 2021 and the new class of first-year students will enter high school this coming July. We need at least 15 new scholarships to support incoming girls who are orphans or whose families cannot pay tuition. A full-year scholarship to JAMS is $800, which covers tuition, room and board, books, school supplies, clothing, and medical care as needed. Thus, our goal is to raise $12,000 during Give DeKalb County.
Donations of any amount through Give DeKalb County are much appreciated and will go to the JAMS Scholarship Fund. If you give $400 or more, you will be assigned to a specific student and receive letters and grade reports from her.

2. By mail postmarked between April 22 and May 6. Download a donation form HERE and print it. Complete the form indicating the organization(s), and donation amount(s), then write a single check for the total amount payable to “DCCF.” Checks can be mailed to DeKalb County Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore, IL 60178.
