Friends of JAMS’ donors strongly endorsed sustainability initiatives at Jane Adeny Memorial School for Girls (JAMS) with a record-setting total of $64,340 through Give DeKalb County on May 2, 2024. We are humbled by your generosity and deeply grateful for your support.
Following distribution of funds on May 16, JAMS began installation of a campus-wide solar power system and construction of a biogas system.
Both environmentally-oriented projects are expected to be fully operational in June 2024. Free and plentiful resources – sunshine for solar electricity and animal waste for biogas – power the new systems.
Together, these initiatives will increase operational efficiency, bolster the school’s self-sufficiency, help students learn ways to address climate change, reduce JAMS energy costs and keep tuition low,
New solar panels have been installed on campus buildings and connected with existing panels into solar control assemblies that will send electricity into all campus buildings.
Biogas tank. Manure from animals in the dairy, poultry barn, and piggery will decompose and be converted to energy-efficient gas for JAMS bread-baking and cooking for the dining hall. New, high efficiency cookers fitted with gas burners are being installed on June 1.
Thank You, Give DeKalb County & Friends of JAMS Donors!
Give DeKalb County enjoyed its most successful campaign ever, raising over two million dollars. Thanks are due to the DeKalb County Community Foundation for organizing this day of giving.
Friends of JAMS also garnered more donations on May 2 than ever before.
In addition to providing funding for immediate action on the two major environmental projects, donors directed that 35% of total contributions will pay for scholarships for needy students at JAMS.
This year, many of our scholarship sponsors renewed existing scholarships or launched new ones through Give DeKalb County, thereby increasing the total dollar amount for Friends of JAMS. As a result of the larger total in contributions, Friends of JAMS earned $7,500 from the Give DeKalb County Bonus Pool.
The bonus funds will supply more scholarships and cover more expenses for sustainability initiatives. Donating through Give DeKalb County turned out to be a very successful strategy.
