Nelle Conley, 2018 graduate of Augustana College’s music education program, has pioneered a music program at JAMS. Nelle accomplished a lot in just a few months this fall. She created a choir and a ukulele ensemble. She also coached students learning to play the keyboard and read music.
Music and the other arts are not a part of the standard Kenyan curriculum but research in the US and other parts of the world shows that students who participate in the arts not only have better attitudes about being in school, they also improve their performance in other subjects such as math and writing.
JAMS students are eagerly anticipating Nelle’s return in January 2019.
